6ix9ine was targeted in an assault last month at an LA Fitness in Florida. Now, he’s opened up about the incident

“For me, it was tough to watch because it was so unexpected,” the Brooklyn native told NBC Miami. “It’s cowardly. When I look at it, I just see hate, right? Imagine being someone who doesn’t know someone from a hole in the wall. I’ll give you an example: today is the first day that I meet you, I don’t know you from anywhere, I could have heard something about you that I may have an opinion on, but I don’t know you to hate you.”

He continued, “Does that give me the right to attack you? To ambush you? I think it was cowardly. I think it was opportunistic, but again I’m not mad because I know in the streets there are no rules. I’m at a loss for words because they saw an opportunity and they took it.”

He clarified that the attack wasn’t staged. “I can capitalize off of anything, I’m that talented. I don’t need to get beat up to sell a record.”

The rapper’s comments  follows a statement he issued on Instagram last week, where he shared the fact that he hasn’t had security for some time now.

“For 2 years I been walking around with no security,” he wrote, alongside a clip of the assault. “Not saying I promote that but now you see I really never hid from anything. … You know how many of you people seen me in real life by myself in gas stations, supermarkets, restaurants, etc.”

Three men were later arrested for the in attack 6ix9ine; 43-year-old Rafael Medina Jr., Octavious Medina, age 23, and Anthony Maldonado, 25. In addition to assault charges, they’re accused of stealing Tekashi’s $3,000 Balenciaga shoes, an iPhone, and the $1,200 key fob to his Lamborghini.
