The world is swamped with disappointing sequels on a daily basis, and while it may come bearing a fairly convoluted title that has the potential to infuriate those with a penchant for maintaining grammatical etiquette at all times, those sins can be forgiven when The Witch: Part 2. The Other One is so undeniably awesome.

Trying to describe writer and director Park Hoon-jung’s would-be franchise is pretty difficult considering it’s essentially a live-action anime heavily steeped in the action, thriller, sci-fi, fantasy, and horror genres all at once, but that’s intended as a compliment when throwing everything at the wall results in so much of it sticking and refusing to budge.

The plot – which doesn’t really require you to follow along if we’re being honest, finds a girl waking up in a massive hidden laboratory, where she stumbles upon a woman trying to protect herself from a criminal organization. When those two storylines overlap, all hell breaks lose as mystery gets piled on top of intrigue as the bullets fly and the bodies continue to drop.

A certifiable box office sensation in its native Korea after winding up as one of the highest-grossing domestic releases of last year, The Witch: Part 2. The Other One has now brought its singular charms to streaming after debuting as the sixth most-watched feature on iTunes in the United Kingdom as part of its rapid ascent up the platform’s global ranks, per FlixPatrol.

It’s an endurance test at 137 minutes, but if you get fully on board, the only question you’ll be left with by the time the credits roll is “when do we get a third one?”
