Quinta Brunson’s hit sitcom will return on Feb. 7
Abbott Elementary will be back soon, but some of the beloved characters are trying on new personalities for the school year. The hit sitcom returns to ABC with a one-hour block of episodes on Feb. 7.
In the new trailer, typically inept principal Ava Coleman (Janelle James) has returned for the new year with a whole new perspective on her job. She attended a course at Harvard over the summer having “learned what it truly takes to do the job of a principal.” She has the glasses and Harvard sweatshirt to prove it, though it seems like her teachers quickly grow tired of her strict new rules. They even send Ava’s crush Gregory (Tyler James Williams) in to seduce her at one point, to no avail.
As for the status of Gregory and Janine (played by the show’s creator Quinta Brunson), the trailer merely teases updates on their will they-won’t they relationship. At the end of Season Two, they confessed their feelings but Janine ultimately chose to focus on herself instead of entering a new relationship. In the trailer, they hint at more updates from the summer. Janine does reveal that she’s trying out cursing more for the new year.
Abbott Elementary‘s latest season was delayed due to both the WGA and SAG strikes last year. Ahead of the new season, Brunson took home an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series.
