Andrea Bocelli took the stage at the 2023 Latin Grammys to sing “Granada” wearing a golden suit as the Latin Recording Academy celebrated the song — written by Mexican composer Agustín Lara — for connecting music “beyond borders.”
As the vocalist performed the track, supported by a string ensemble, a pair of performers danced along to Bocelli’s rendition of the iconic 1932 track. When Bocelli’s performance ended, the entire room celebrated the musician with a standing ovation.
The Italian icon of classical and opera music has sold over 75 million records worldwide. Bocelli has recorded his hit LPs in Italian, Spanish, and English.
Throughout his storied career, Bocelli has received five Grammy and five Latin Grammy nominations. In 2008, he was nominated for Record of the Year at the Latin Grammy Awards for “Vive Ya!” alongside fellow Italian singer Laura Pausini.
Pausini was honored by the Latin Recording Academy as Person of the Year this year. Bocelli’s biggest Latin hit was “Vivo Por Ella” featuring Spanish singer Marta Sánchez. Their collaboration peaked at No. 16 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart in 1998. With his LP Pasión, he hit No. 1 on the Top Latin Albums chart in 2013. That album featured duets with Jennifer Lopez, Nelly Furtado, and a virtual one with late French star Edith Piaf.
In 2018, Bocelli topped the Billboard 200 chart for the first time with his album Sì. The LP included collaborations with Ed Sheeran on “Amo soltanto te”,” Dua Lipa on “If Only,” and Josh Groban for “We Will Meet Once Again.” Bocelli’s last album Believe was released in 2020. He collaborated with Alison Krauss on “Amazing Grace” and fellow opera singer Cecilia Bartoli for “Pianissimo.”
Among the performers at this year’s awards show — hosted for the first time in Seville, Spain — are Juanes, Rosalía, Eslabón Armado and Peso Pluma, María Becerra, and Feid.
