Apple finally allows cloud gaming apps on iPhones and iPads

Apple has announced that it will now allow game-streaming applications on the App Store. It means that brands like Microsoft and Nvidia can finally launch native apps for their cloud gaming services, such as Xbox Cloud Gaming and GeForce Now, on the App Store for iPhone and iPad. The new policy applies globally.

Up until now, people could access game streaming services on iPhones and iPads only through web browsers. While that method worked without major issues, a native app could provide a much better game-streaming experience, including enhanced responsiveness, improved controls, and the option to offer settings.

Apple is also offering additional search options for game-streaming apps on the App Store. For example, if you search for Resident Evil 4, apart from showing the native version of the game, Apple could also show that the game is available for streaming on Xbox Cloud Gaming and GeForce Now. Along with that, Apple is also providing its in-app purchase system for games within streaming applications. Of course, titles in game streaming apps will have to adhere to App Store Review Guidelines.
