BYD Seal EV With 530 Bhp at Rs 56 Lakh, BMW X1 SUV With 134 Bhp At Rs 57 Lakhs!

Just a few days after billionaire Warren Buffett-backed Chinese automaker BYD launched its all-new fully electric sedan, the Seal, in India, the company has become a talking point. It is offering some insane electric powertrains with this brand-new sedan. The company is offering the new Seal EV sedan with three different electric powertrains, with the most powerful AWD variant making 530 bhp at a price of Rs 56 lakh.

This level of power is unheard of in cars available in India, and even German automotive giants like BMW and Mercedes are not offering anything close to it. The entry-level BMW X1, priced at Rs 57.5 lakh (on-road Delhi), offers just 134 bhp, making it look like a bullock cart in front of the BYD Seal.

What is BYD Seal offering?

As mentioned, the Chinese EV automaker has launched the Seal sedan with three powertrain options. It gets two battery packs, a 61.44 kWh battery, and an 82.56 kWh battery. The smaller battery pack is being offered with a single rear-wheel-drive motor. This setup produces a maximum power of 204 hp and 310 Nm of torque, which is also a lot more than the power offered by the above-mentioned BMW X1.

The BMW X1 sDrive18i comes powered by a 1.5-liter, 3-cylinder turbo petrol, which makes only 130 bhp and 230 Nm of torque. Even the X1 sDrive18d, which comes powered by a 2-liter diesel engine, makes just 148 bhp and 360 Nm of torque when compared to the larger battery pack versions of the BYD Seal, which come in both rear-wheel-drive (RWD) and all-wheel-drive (AWD) configurations.

The BMW is put to shame as the RWD version of the Seal produces 312 bhp and 360 Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the most powerful AWD variant boasts an impressive 530 bhp and 670 Nm of torque. What’s even more impressive about the BYD Seal is that the AWD variant can do a sprint of 0-100 kmph in just 3.8 seconds.

Price comparison

As for the pricing, the BYD Seal looks like the better value-for-money product. This is because it offers the above-mentioned power figures with a starting price of Rs 41 lakh for the entry-level Dynamic variant. The Premium variant has been priced at Rs 45.5 lakh. Meanwhile, the range-topping Performance variant has been priced at Rs 53 lakh. All prices ex-showroom Delhi.

BYD has commenced the bookings for the Seal in India with a booking amount of Rs. 1.25 lakhs, and it has been reported that so far it has received around 200 bookings. As for the BMW X1, the petrol model is priced at Rs 49.5 lakh. Meanwhile, the diesel BMW X1 is priced at Rs 52.5 lakh (ex-showroom).

BYD Seal range and charging

As mentioned, the BYD Seal is offered with two different battery pack options. The first is a 61.44 kWh battery, and the other is an 82.56 kWh battery. Both of these batteries feature BYD’s proprietary blade battery technology. The entry-level RWD model offers a range of 510 km. Meanwhile, the larger battery pack equipped RWD and AWD models offer 650 km and 580 km range, respectively.

As for charging, the BYD Seal supports fast charging speeds of up to 150 kW. This allows the new sedan to charge from 10 percent to 80 percent in just 37 minutes. Additionally, a regular 11 kW AC charger can fully charge the battery in 8.6 hours. The BYD Seal also supports Vehicle to Load (V2L) charging, enabling users to power appliances and equipment for outdoor activities.
