Car worth Rs. 1.6 crore totalled

Mercedes-Benz got the all-new EQS electric sedan to the Indian market earlier this year. The luxury EV sedan sure saw an instant demand in the Indian market with over 300 bookings. But driving an electric car can be very different compared to standard Internal Combustion Engine unit (ICE) cars. With sudden acceleration, the EVs can throw in a lot of surprises.

The pictures of this crashed Mercedes-Benz EQS were shared on T-BHP forum who spotted the vehicle on the streets of Mumbai. We are not sure about how exactly this accident happened but the pictures indicate that it could have been because of sudden acceeleration.

This is a media unit, which is loaned to media houses for various purposes including reviews. We are also not sure about the exact media house who crashed this unit. The first set of pictures show the vehicle being rolled into a flatbed tow truck. More pictures show the damage to the front-end of the vehicle.

The pictures indicate that the Mercedes-Benz EQS could not negotiate a diversion and crashed straight into it. The vehicle sustained severe front-end damages and the front bumper came out completely.

The Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 4MATIC is the first locally assembled electric vehicle from the German car maker in India. India is currently the only country where the EQS is getting assembled outside Germany.

0-100 km/h under 5 seconds

The new Mercedes-Benz EQS gets powered by a 107.8 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. It gets two electric motors that are installed on each axle. Together, the Mercedes-Benz EQS generates a maximum power of 523 PS and peak torque of 855 Nm. The battery pack is compatiable with 200 kW fast charger. The car can do ARAI certified range of 857 km on a single full charge.

The EQS 580 can do 0-100 km/h in just 4.3 seconds. That makes it one of the quickest cars available in the Indian market. Electric cars are inherently quick, especially because of the ability to churn out the maximum tourque at zero rpm. Since electric motors do not need to reach a certain level of RPM to generate power, the vehicles can be extremely fast. Mercedes-Benz offers a slew of safety features including ABS, stability control, airbags, active collision avoidance system too.

We are not sure if the accident happened because of distracted driving or the vehicle going out of control at high speed. However, with an array of computers and electronics taking the charge of the vehicle, it is difficult make the vehicle go out of control.
