Regan Noelle Gibbs, 25, a former star goalie for the University of Kansas’ soccer team, was found with critical injuries in her apartment on Monday afternoon, WDAF reported.

Paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene.

Officers arrested Gibbs’ husband, 26-year-old Chad Joseph Marek, who called 911 and allegedly used God as his reason for killing his wife.

“He told us that God told him to do it,” Lawrence Police Chief Rich Lockhart alleged to WDAF.

We apologize, but this video has failed to load.

“There obviously are some preliminary indicators that this person wasn’t mentally stable,” he alleged. “We call it ‘being in psychosis,’ so obviously that is something we will be investigating as well as this case continues.”

The exact nature of Gibbs’ injuries and how she died remain unclear, and investigators are trying to determine a motive for the killing.

A GoFundMe page, launched to cover Gibbs’ funeral costs, details how Regan’s mother “received the call no parent ever expects to receive” the day after her daughter’s alleged murder.

“Regan had a precious soul and she was loved by everyone who knew her,” the organizers wrote. “She leaves behind her family, which includes four younger sisters who are heartbroken by this tragic loss.”
