After remaining wholly out of the spotlight for the past year or so, Ezra Miller re-emerged in public in a big way this week thanks to their appearance at the world premiere of The Flash, a movie that’s long been plagued by unwanted associations with Miller’s much-publicized battles with their mental health which has led to numerous troubles with the law and a significant deflating of their reputation.

When giving a speech to the crowd at the premiere, a clearly emotional Miller thanked many people who had helped them on their road to becoming the Flash, including directors Zack Snyder and Andy Muschietti. Most intriguingly for fans, however, Miller also made sure to shout out to DC Studios CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran.

Labeling them the “dynamic duo,” Miller thanked the pair “for your grace and discernment and care in the context of my life and for bringing this moment to fruition.

From this, we can likely infer that Miller is on very good terms with Gunn and Safran, and their friendship with the former in particular should not come as a surprise. They already have a working relationship thanks to Miller’s cameo as Barry Allen in Peacemaker‘s season 1 finale, something that Miller personally requested due to being such a big fan of Gunn’s films. More recently, the filmmaker has been routinely hyping up The Flash to high heaven on social media.

Gunn and Safran appear to have a lot of respect for Miller as both a performer and a person and, from Miller’s words, it seems apparent that the duo have stood by the star during their reign at the top so far. There’s currently no project obviously set to feature the Flash on the DCU’s Chapter One docket, but it seems just possible that Miller may yet have a future as the Scarlet Speedster. Especially as Muschietti is sticking around the franchise, and he has no intention of seeing Miller replaced.

But, unlike the Scarlet Speedster, we can’t time travel, so we’ll just have to see what the DCU brings. Here in the present, The Flash opens in theaters worldwide this June 16.
