Fires of Rubicon gets new trailer and release date

August 25, 2023

FromSoftware and Bandai Namco have announced that Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon will be ready to drop on August 25, 2023. That’s soon! They’ve opened up pre-orders and have provided a new trailer as an appetizer.

The trailer actually gives us some good looks at the gameplay, and it looks… very much like an Armored Core game. We’re shown a lot of industrial sci-fi environments and some large-scale robots, and all this is underneath a pulsing soundtrack and various sound clips of dramatic sounding dialogue.

The story of Armored Core VI involves a newly discovered substance called “Coral.” It was located on the titular planet of Rubicon 3. It was being used for a technological boom, but in the rush to harness it, it causes a catastrophe that engulfs the entire star system in the titular fire. Now, a bunch of groups are fighting over the resurfaced Coral, and you join the fray as an independent mercenary.

You can expect all the intense mech customization the series is known for. If you’re unfamiliar, I can tell you this: Just so, so much mech customization. So much.

I’m something of a lapsed Armored Core fan. I checked out after Armored Core 4 disappointed me in ways I can’t express without screaming. I was going to get back into the series, but after the first announcement of Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon, someone went through and bought up every copy of the series’ entries from my local shop. Rude.

Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon is coming to PC, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS4, and PS5 on August 25, 2023.
