Fortnite update 28.01 patch notes, downtime, NEW movement animations and more | Gaming | Entertainment

Fortnite is getting a brand new update in time for Christmas. Fortnite update 28.01 has a December 19 release date on PS5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, Android and Nintendo Switch. Unfortunately, however, while it’s not a major new update in terms of new content, Epic is planning to hold a period of server downtime.  In a post on social media, Epic confirmed that Battle Royale, Creative, LEGO Fortnite, Rocket Racing and Fortnite Festival will be taken offline at 9am GMT UK time. Matchmaking will be disabled at around 8.30am GMT.

The news was announced by Epic Games on X (formerly Twitter): “New patch incoming! Tomorrow’s patch hits key areas that we want to address before our next content update.

“Downtime will start at 4:00 AM ET, with matchmaking being disabled shortly beforehand.”

Without any new content to speak of, the new update will make a series of bug fixes and gameplay tweaks.

This includes implementing the brand new movement animation system, which was previewed at the start of the new season.

According to a recent blog post, fans can expect smoother gameplay thanks to more fluid and detailed animations.

Epic explains more: “Players on all platforms will experience Motion Matching and Procedural Layering in Fortnite Battle Royale.

“These are features that result in improved animations for things like transitioning from walking to running, changing directions, and using a weapon.”
