Google Play Store: IAMAI advises Google not to delist apps

The Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) on Friday advised Google not to delist any apps from Google Play.

The IAMAI was responding to reports that Google might go to the extent of removing 10 Indian companies’ apps from the Play Store for ‘non-compliance’ with Google Play policy.

Google has removed Bharat Matrimony and Shaadi.com’s flagship apps as well as delisted Bharat Matrimony-owned Jodii, OTT app Stage, dating app Truly Madly and streaming platform Alt from the Play Store on Friday citing non-compliance with App Store billing policies in India, sources told ET.

This came hours after the search giant on Friday said it would begin enforcing its payments policy, which would mean that it could delist non-compliant apps from the Play Store.

Google had said that 10 developers were not complying with its policies and that over 200,000 Indian developers were complying with their payments policy.

IAMAI is able to confirm that at least four of its members have received notices from Google, it said in a statement. “The affected members of IAMAI are of the view that a substantive hearing of the case is pending before the Supreme Court of India, and Google should not take any coercive action during the pendency of the case,” it said.
