Google releases Android 13 QPR2 Beta 2 with Unicode 15 Emoji & more

On Monday, Google released the second beta for Android 13 QPR2, that’s the Quarterly Platform Release update, also known as the Pixel Feature Drop. The previous Pixel Feature Drop came in December, so we should see another in March.

In this update, there’s quite a few changes actually for a second QPR. Seeing as the first one after the release of a new version of Android is normally the big one. Google’s bug fix list is pretty short here:

  • Fixed an issue with the System UI that sometimes caused the Home screen to become unresponsive.
  • Fixed an issue where, after switching back to Normal video capture mode from Slow Motion mode in the Google Camera app, the app continued capturing slow-motion video if the capture speed was changed between 1/8x and 1/4x while in Slow Motion mode.

However, others that have already installed the update have found a few changes. That includes support for Unicode 15 Emoji. This was actually supposed to be included in the previous QPR update. But good to see it available now.

QPR2 Beta 2 also brings in a new taskbar for tablets and foldable devices. Which is now going to be enabled by default. As well as the volume slider being a bit longer.

Android 13 QPR2 should go stable in March

We should get at least one more beta update for this quarterly platform release, before it rolls out to everyone in March, along with the security patch.

If you’re tempted to install the beta update, you can enroll in the Android Beta Program by clicking here. It’s not recommended to install on your main device, as it can be rather buggy. But it is available if you choose to do so. If you’re already in the Beta Program, you should see the update in the coming hours. Beta updates do generally roll out pretty quickly.
