In a move to contribute to ‘Make in India’ initiative, the top two-wheeler giant Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) has inaugurated its third assembly line at its fourth plant at Vithalapur in Gujarat. As per the detail shared by the brand, the move will boost the annual capacity up to 6.5 lakh units, and will generate good employment in the state.

The company’s state-of-the-art Vithalapur facility is considered one of the largest scooter-only plants worldwide. It takes care of the overall production at both national and international levels. It is the same plant that is responsible for making the company’s hot-selling products Activa, Activa 124, Dio, and Dio 125 among others.

Plant for Performance Oriented Bikes

Apart from this, the plant also creates heavy engine units for performance-oriented bikes, which are sold in the overseas market including Europe, Thailand, Japan and the US.

Speaking on occasion, the company’s President, Managing Director & CEO, Tsutsumu Otani said, “Today marks a significant milestone as we have inaugurated a new 3rd Assembly Line at our Vithalapur facility in Gujarat. To serve customers more efficiently with speed, undertaking this capacity expansion plan will increase HMSI’s total annual production volumes significantly.”

In addition, he said, “HMSI’s Gujarat plant produces scooter models for domestic as well as export markets which will help us to continue leading the trend of scooterization not just in India but across the globe.”
