How to Play Red Dead Redemption on the Xbox One Right Now

While game developer Rockstar is known for the Grand Theft Auto series, it broke new ground with 2010’s open-world Wild West epic Red Dead Redemption. It was exclusive to the PS3 and Xbox 360. Ever since Microsoft announced backwards compatibility for the Xbox One, the game has been one of the community’s most requested Xbox 360 titles to be playable on the Redmond-based company’s newest console.

Although Microsoft is yet to officially announce it’s availability, you can play it on the Xbox One right now. This was discovered by users of popular gaming forum NeoGAF who spotted it playable. Presumably being checked by a tester soon before a public announcement. You can play Red Dead Redemption on your Xbox One right now too. Here’s how.

  1. Find someone following Red Dead Redemption. With the New Xbox One Experience, players can follow specific games for direct updates. Simply look up an Xbox One user on your console and check his or her followed games.

  2. On doing so, you can download the game from the Red Dead Redemption page on the Xbox One if you already own it digitally.

  3. If you don’t own it digitally, you can buy it from the Xbox website for Rs. 1,499 and proceed to download it from the Red Dead Redemption page on the Xbox One.

If you own it on disc, fret not. Microsoft should allow you to play it shortly.

And Red Dead Redemption isn’t the only game. Others such as Tekken Tag Tournament 2 and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night are playable as well in the same fashion. What this points to is an inevitable announcement from Microsoft of the availability of these Xbox 360 games on the Xbox One via backwards compatibility.
