India’s most powerful Volkswagen Polo 1.0 TSI hot hatchback makes 170 Bhp


The Volkswagen Polo may be a thing of the past, but it still commands immense respect as the best small car for driving enthusiasts in recent times. Even in its last iteration, which came with a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, it claimed segment-best performance figures, outgunning all the other small cars. Recently, we came across a Stage 3 tuned Volkswagen Polo with this engine, which is almost perfection on stilts and pure joy for car lovers.

A YouTube video from “The Drivers Hub” showcases a Stage 3 tuned Volkswagen Polo 1.0-litre TSI, which claims a maximum power output of a whopping 170 bhp and a peak torque output of 280 Nm. These figures are much higher than the stock figures of this version of the Polo, which claimed a maximum power output of 110 PS and a peak torque output of 175 Nm.

The bump in the power and torque figures of this Stage 3 tuned Volkswagen Polo is majorly credited to the RTMG Turbo. The car also features a Racing Line air intake and a Racing Line Turbo Inlet. To make the performance of the car even more effortless, the owner of this car has also installed a custom downpipe, a custom mid-exhaust, and a DC Sports X Borla muffler at the end. With these mechanical tweaks, this Polo can cover the quarter-mile sprint in under 15 seconds.

Finished in the stock paint shade of Carbon Steel, this Volkswagen Polo features sporty-looking skirts on the sides and front, a rear diffuser, Japanese Racing JR28 rims with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires, and upgraded LED headlamps. It also gets MTS Coilovers and all the badges and decals from the limited-run ‘Legend Edition’ Polo.

Cost of modifications

All of these modifications do come at a cost, though, and a hefty one at that. Starting with the mechanical and electronic upgrades, the custom downpipe, exhaust, and muffler cost Rs 60,000, the RTMG Hybrid turbo cost Rs 1.6 lakh, and the Venom Stage 3 tune cost Rs 45,000. The other add-on charges include Rs 95,000 for MTS coilovers, Rs 1.38 lakh for JR28 rims, Rs 44,000 for Michelin tires, Rs 78,000 for Brembo big brake kit, Rs 33,000 for White Line anti-roll bars, Rs 19,000 for White Line end links, and Rs 53,000 for Maxidot instrument console.

Accounting for Rs 4.24 lakh for other miscellaneous add-ons, which includes LED headlamps and a rear diffuser, the total cost of modifications on this Polo go up to Rs 11.46 lakh. It’s a significant amount of money for the modification of a compact car, but after considering the upgrades, this Polo looks like a money-well-spent proposition, defying the common notion of ‘there’s no replacement for displacement’.
