In formally asking a judge to order Jason Sudeikis to start paying child support, Olivia Wilde has opened a window into how the rich and famous spend their money and perhaps get in over their heads when it comes to monthly expenses.
In legal documents related to Wilde’s bitter and protracted custody fight with ex-fiance Sudeikis, the actor and director said she “has borne the lion’s share of the expenses” for their 8-year-old son and 6-year-old daughter since she and the “Ted Lasso” star split in November 2020. This has been the case, Wilde said, even though Sudeikis earns “significantly more” than she does and “has greater access to funds,” according to documents first obtained by The Blast.
Wilde’s financial hardship argument is based on her statement that she brings in $40,000 a month in salary and $60,000 income from her “Wilde Company” and from rental income, the documents show. Unfortunately, that $100,000 total income doesn’t cover her monthly expenses of more than $107,000, as the documents reveal.
Wilde said that the $107,000 includes $60,000 a month for “rent/mortgage” and $4,000 for “laundry and cleaning,” the documents show.
For the time being, Wilde remains wealthy in her own right, according to The Blast. She has $645,187 in the bank and more than $10 million in other assets. Nonetheless, the “Don’t Worry Darling” director said that the far wealthier Sudeikis should start paying child support and contribute at least $500,000 towards her legal fees and other costs, as she has accused him and his legal team of dragging the case out longer than necessary.
In previously reported court documents, Wilde alleged that Sudeikis has been trying to litigate her “into debt” by prolonging the case over jurisdictional issues. He recently lost a bid to have the custody dispute heard in New York instead of California, presumably because he wants 8-year-old Otis and 6-year-old Daisy to live with him in Brooklyn instead of with their mother in Los Angeles.
Wilde has accused Sudeikis of being “underhanded,” acting in “bad faith” and jeopardizing their children’s future by using “intimidation or trickery” to win, the Daily Mail reported last month.
“We were scheduled to start working with a family therapist in California in mid-January,” Wilde said in a court filing, obtained by The Daily Mail. “I thought things were calming down and were going to move forward in a more amicable, respectful fashion.”
In the new filing reported by The Blast, Wilde’s legal team said she will “continue to incur substantial attorney and expert fees and costs to bring this matter to trial given the tactics that have been taken by Jason and his counsel to date.”
Wilde expects the costs will include at least $100,000 for pay forensic accountants to dig through Sudeikis’ financial records to determine how much he should pay in child support. The Blast said that Wilde apparently has not yet received those records, which is why she hasn’t specified how much she wants in child support. However, she said Sudeikis should be ordered to pay child support “retroactive” to the date which she filed the case.
The Blast said that the couple are expected to continue their custody fight until they can settle it privately.
