iPhone 16 to get AI-enhanced Siri, upgraded mics, and iOS 18 with ChatGPT-like features: Kuo

iPhone 16 with AI-enhanced Siri and ChatGPT-like features

As per Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, “all iPhone 16 models will feature a substantial upgrade in microphone specifications”. He says the mics will have an improved Signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and their prices would also be up by “about 100–150%”.

One area where mics come in handy is when we call upon Siri to do something. The better the mics, the more alert would be Siri. It would be able to hear us better and make its responses also quicker.

Now what could make its responses better would be the new rumour that Siri will be armed with AIGC or LLM or ChatGPT-like features. He posts, “On mobile phones, voice input will be the key interface for AI/AIGC/LLM, so strengthening the software and hardware functions and specifications of Siri is the key to promoting AIGC”. This improved Siri is expected to be showcased at WWDC 2024.

iPhone 16 is tipped to come with 6GB RAM as the iPhone 15

From a different post by leaker @Tech_Reve, we learn that investment bank Mizuho Securities believes the vanilla iPhone 16 models could have 6GB RAM like their predecessors. The bank thinks the cost of adding more RAM would be levied from the customers only. Since the Pro models are pricier, they could have more RAM.

It also thinks Apple doesn’t have enough applications for the increased RAM. However, as discussed in the previous section, Apple does seem to have some plans with the iPhone 16 and AI.

So, considering both reports, it seems like iPhone 16 Pro models will be more ready to accommodate on-device AI and the aforementioned AIGC applications. In time we shall know if this speculation is right or not.
