Lewisham-hailing rapper KidWild is back with a new video and it’s got all the hallmarks that made tracks like “Popular Loner”, “DND” and “Feeling A Way” so instantly likeable. “If I Told You (Lady)” dropped a couple of weeks ago and it’s just been given some visuals by director Blue Boredom.
A sample from turn-of-the-millenium dance-pop hit “Lady (Hear Me Tonight)” by Modjo gives the track its backbone, which KidWild hops and skips over as he serenades the girl of his dreams. Between the recurring guitar lick sample and KidWild’s effortless charm, every ingredient is present and accounted for.
The video plays to that perfectly, making nods to rom-com classics like Say Anything, as we watch a montage of KidWild—decked out in a crisp white Ed Hardy jacket at one point—and his girl hitting all those tropes and moments that every young couple goes through.
