Magenta – BSES Join hands for home electric vehicle chargers


As the electric mobility wave is picking up pace in India, the need for chargers to charge the EVs is increasing day by day. So in order to help the EV owners in Delhi, Magenta which is an integrated clean energy and electric mobility solutions provider has joined hands with BSES Rajdhani Power Limited, the state electricity supplier of Delhi, to install private home EV chargers in Delhi at a net cost of roughly Rs 2,375, post-subsidy.

This scheme is currently only available to BSES customers residing in Delhi. The government of Delhi hopes to expedite the adoption of electric vehicles with this initiative and Magenta Group also supports Switch Delhi, which is a Delhi government’s project to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles.

Magenta has developed and installed the first private EV charging point in Munirka as part of this initiative. In addition, Kailash Gahlot, the Delhi government’s Minister of Transport, recently inaugurated a Magenta electric car charger for residential complexes in Vasant Kunj. As of recent, Magenta has placed roughly 120 personal chargers in Delhi so far to help with sustainable transportation.

Customers will be able to use the chargers put up by the company to get a universal 3.3kW AC charger. These AC chargers can charge any electric four-wheeler, electric two-wheeler, or other light electric commercial vehicles at a reasonable price. The Magenta charger is also a Bluetooth-enabled device that is controlled via the ChargeGrid BT smartphone app. Magenta intends to build up 10,000 private charging points and improve charging infrastructure around Delhi, according to information acquired by the corporation.

Meanwhile, residents and companies alike can take advantage of the opportunity to purchase subsidised electric vehicle chargers. Additionally, in February of this year, Magenta EV extended its operations in the Mumbai and Chennai markets, announcing the introduction of over 500 electric three-wheeler cargo vehicles in the next 3 to 4 months. In new areas, the Mumbai-based EV platform will launch electric three-wheelers in the L5 category.

Magenta’s EVET, which was also introduced in Bengaluru, has seen a two-fold increase in sales month over month. By the end of December 2022, the Magenta EV will be available in southern markets, commencing with Hyderabad. The EVET EV fleet transports medium and large goods and provides considerable cost reductions. An electric vehicle’s typical operating cost is roughly Rs 1.5-2 per km, while a fuel vehicle is around Rs 8-9 per km.

Earlier in the February of this year, the government of Delhi also announced that it has installed the first private electric vehicle charging point under its single-window facility. The installation of this first private charging point was done at a resident’s home at DDA flats in south Delhi’s Munirka under the BSES discom BSES Rajdhani Power Limited’s (BRPL) area. While the second private charger was installed in east Delhi’s Vivek Vihar. The single-window facility, which is an Aam Aadmi Party government of Delhi initiative, also endeavours to expedite the expansion of charging infrastructure for electric vehicles at private and semi-public places like apartments, group housing societies, hospitals, malls and theatres in the city.
