Mahindra Scorpio N vs MG Hector SUVs in a drag race on video

MG recently launched the 2023 version of their popular SUV Hector in the Indian market. The manufacturer is offering a long list of features including ADAS with the new Hector and Hector Plus. We did get a chance to drive the new Hector and a detailed review video of the same is available on our website and YouTube channel. Online we have been seeing several videos related to MG Hector SUV. One of them that we recently came across was this drag race video. In this video, MG Hector is seen competing against Mahindra Scorpio N in a drag race.

The video has been uploaded by HER GARAGE on their YouTube channel. In this video, MG Hector and Mahindra Scorpio N are seen on an empty stretch of road. The Scorpio N seen here is a diesel automatic variant. The SUV is powered by a 2.2 litre turbocharged diesel engine that generates 175 Ps and 400 Nm of peak torque. The MG Hector seen here is the petrol variant and it comes with a 1.5 litre turbocharged petrol engine that generates 143 Ps and 250 Nm of peak torque. It is paired with a CVT gearbox. On paper Mahindra Scorpio N was looking powerful and even the vlogger thought the same.

The Scorpio N was being driven by his friend and vlogger was driving the MG Hector. The race was conducted in multiple rounds to get a fair idea about the performance of both the SUVs. For the first round, the traction control was turned off in both the SUVs and Hector was in Sport mode and Scorpio N was in Zap mode. Both SUVs were lined up for the race and they started racing. The race started and as expected, Scorpio N launched off the line quite aggressively. MG Hector was also right behind the Scorpio N however, at no point could the SUV actually overtake Scorpio N. In the first round, Mahindra Scorpio N was declared as the winner.

For the second round, driver changed in the MG Hector and vlogger’s friend was driving the Hector now. There were two passengers in Hector while Scorpio N had only one. The race started and both SUVs launched off the line quite aggressively. In this round too, Scorpio N was in the lead but, the gap between both the SUVs were very less. At around 110 kmph mark, Hector started overtaking Scorpio N and it took the lead. The Hector maintained the lead for rest of the round and won it.

Similar results were seen in the next couple of rounds and for the last round, the AC was turned off and the Scorpio N was shifted to Zoom mode where the engine generates maximum power. The race started the Scorpio N got off the line very aggressively however, the MG Hector soon caught up with it and won the last round too. MG Hector was announced as the winner of the race. One of the reason why it managed to win the race was because it was lighter than Scorpio N. MG Hector weighs around 1,650 kg and Scorpio N is around 1,900 kg. The power-to-weight ratio in Hector was better than the Scorpio N and that is reason why it won. Petrol engines can be revved up to higher RPMs while diesel engine do not like that.
