We have come across several videos where people attempting to jump traffic signals have caused accidents and problems for other road users. The installation of surveillance cameras on junctions and traffic signals has helped reduce this tendency among drivers, but there are still a considerable number of people who violate this simple rule on the road. Here, we have a video showing a Mahindra Scorpio driver jumping a traffic signal and crashing into a Bajaj Pulsar motorcycle in Hyderabad.
The video has been uploaded by the Cyberabad Traffic Police on their YouTube channel. It aims to create awareness among road users. The footage shown here is from a real accident that occurred in 2021 at Durga Nagar x road Mailardevpalli. The video was recorded by a CCTV camera installed on the traffic signal. In this video, we can see the signal turning green for vehicles coming from the bottom left side of the screen, and the traffic is moving smoothly.
Vehicles from all the other sides are waiting for their turn. Impatient auto drivers and two-wheeler riders can be seen stopping on the pedestrian crossing of the road. In the top right corner of the screen, we can see a Mahindra Scorpio moving towards the signal that has turned red. While other vehicles stop, the Mahindra Scorpio driver manages to squeeze through the gap and turn right. The SUV had its turn indicator engaged and was moving forward without waiting for the lights to turn green.

As the SUV was about to reach the other side, a biker on a Bajaj Pulsar appeared from the bottom left corner of the screen and crashed into the Mahindra Scorpio. Surprisingly, the biker was not wearing a helmet. He was thrown onto the bonnet and then fell on the ground. All of this happened in a fraction of a second. The Mahindra Scorpio driver stopped after the crash but immediately reversed the car. When the biker saw the car reversing, he quickly got up and started arguing with the driver. The driver, however, managed to escape from the scene.
The Hyderabad police investigated the video and traced the owner or the driver of the car. In this case, the Mahindra Scorpio driver was at fault. He should have waited for his turn to make the right turn. The biker was simply following the rule; however, he was not wearing a helmet. Surprisingly, neither of them was injured in this crash, which is a good thing. The police traced the vehicle, and legal action has been taken against the driver. In the event of an accident, it is the duty of the driver to stop and take the victim to a nearby hospital. The person should also inform the police, and both parties should exchange insurance details. The person violating the rule is also punishable under Section 187 of the Motor Vehicles Act 1998.
