Mahindra Thar stuck in sand recovered by old-gen Thar

Off-roading activities with SUVs is slowly becoming popular in different parts of the country. There are several SUV owners group, who organise such off-road events to explore new tracks and also know more about the capabilities of these vehicles. There are several videos available online where SUVs are seen off-roading. Most of the time, these groups are lead by an experienced off-roader or a group of off-road enthusiasts. Getting the vehicle stuck on obstacles while off-roading is just part of the fun. Here we have a video where a Maruti Gypsy and new-gen Mahindra Thar gets stuck in sand.

The video has been uploaded by JK Autos on their YouTube channel. In this video, vlogger and his friends are all exploring an off-road trail in Punjab. This off-road event was organised by SUV Club of India, which is an off-road group from Delhi. The track goes through various parts of the forest and even river beds. When this video, starts, a Maruti Gypsy and a current generation Mahindra Thar are stuck on sandy river bed. The sand looks sturdy but, it is completely saturated and it was acting like quicksand. Both Maruti Gypsy and Mahindra Thar got stuck in sand immediately.

Maruti Gypsy is a lightweight 4×4 SUV but, the sand was so loose that the wheels got stuck badly. The driver tried to get the SUV out several times but, it was all in vain. Finally, they decided to get help from the recovery vehicle which was a previous generation Mahindra Thar. The Thar had an electric winch and they started pulling the Gypsy using the winch. Even with a winch, it was quite difficult to pull the Gypsy as the sand was slippery and loose. After continuous power, the SUV almost came out. One of the person who was leading the group then asks the Gypsy driver to engage 4L and drive the car in reverse while carrying some speed. The driver followed the instructions and the Gypsy was free. The Gypsy then joined rest of the group through another sand bed which was more sturdy.

Next was the Mahindra Thar. In comparison to Gypsy, Thar was stuck in an even more trickier manner. Both front and rear wheels on the right hand side were completely in sand. The SUV had beached as well. Once again, the old generation Mahindra Thar came to the rescue. The winch rope was attached to the rear of the Thar and then they started winching the SUV out. It was stuck so badly that even the winch was not able to pull it out from sand. After several tries, an experienced driver got into the vehicle and he started driving the car in reverse while maintaining a constant throttle input. Slowly, the SUV started to move back and after the Thar had created a track for itself, the winch was removed and the driver tried to get the SUV with momentum. After couple trials, the Thar also came out successfully. This video shows how important it is to go out for such off-road expeditions with people who actually have experience. They always carry recovery equipment as well. Always go for such expeditions in groups, so that even if one vehicle gets stuck, there is other vehicle which would help you get out.
