Maruti Suzuki Unveils eVX Electric SUV and WagonR Flex Fuel Concepts At Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024

Maruti Suzuki has taken center stage at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024, unveiling two notable exhibits that underscore the brand’s commitment to innovation and sustainability.

The headline-grabber is the eVX concept, providing a sneak peek into Maruti’s inaugural electric SUV for the Indian market, set to hit the roads later in 2024. Partnering with Toyota, Maruti Suzuki is leveraging Toyota’s 27PL skateboard platform, a collaboration resulting in two sibling SUVs—the eVX and Toyota’s Urban SUV concept. Both SUVs, measuring 4.3 meters in length, boast a spacious cabin owing to their born-electric vehicle architecture.

Already undergoing road testing in India, the eVX promises to redefine the electric SUV segment. The model is expected to carry a price tag starting from Rs. 22 lakh (ex-showroom). Maruti Suzuki has dropped tantalizing details about the eVX’s features, hinting at a 360-degree camera derived from a standard level-2 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) package. The interiors showcase a blend of beige tones and chrome plastics, providing a touch of elegance.

The eVX is slated for production at Maruti’s Gujarat plant in 2025, featuring a 60kWh battery pack. Maruti Suzuki tantalizingly teases aspects of the SUV’s interior, including a possible floating screen, panoramic sunroof, and electrically adjustable front seats.

In terms of performance, the eVX Concept is equipped with a 60kWh battery pack, incorporating safe battery technology. While specific power outputs are yet to be disclosed, Maruti Suzuki asserts an impressive driving range of 550 kilometers, emphasizing the model’s practicality for everyday commuting.

The exterior design of the eVX Concept is both bold and stylish, showcasing a robust stance with an upright nose and a distinctive clamshell bonnet design reminiscent of the new-gen Brezza. The grille, adorned with the iconic ‘S’ logo, sits lower on the bumper, while sleek V-shaped cuts house the headlamps and daytime running lights. The SUV’s profile features muscular character lines, flush door handles, and attention-grabbing blacked-out aero wheels with low-profile tires. The rear boasts a high-positioned LED tail lamp strip across the tailgate, adding a touch of modernity to the design.

Accompanying the eVX at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo is the Wagon R Flex Fuel prototype, featuring a 1.2-liter petrol engine modified to run on E20-E85 Ethanol. Positioned as part of the Maruti Wagon R lineup, this flex-fuel variant is estimated to be priced at around Rs. 8.50 lakh.

Maruti Suzuki’s showcase at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo highlights the brand’s vision for the future—electric SUVs that combine style, performance, and sustainability. The eVX Concept, in particular, emerges as a strong contender in the electric SUV landscape, poised to rival models like the Tata Nexon EV, Hyundai Kona Electric, Mahindra XUV400, and MG ZS EV upon its anticipated launch in 2025.
