Megyn Kelly Has Thoughts on Taylor Swift’s Reaction to Jo Koy

Girl, who asked you? Megyn Kelly apparently had thoughts about Taylor Swift not enjoying Jo Koy’s joke at the Golden Globes Sunday, with her guest on the show describing Swift’s reaction as a “death glare.”

On the show, Kelly replayed the clip of Koy’s joke, where he said, “The big difference between the Golden Globes and the NFL? At the Golden Globes, we have fewer camera shots of Taylor Swift.”

In the clip, Swift gave a straight face, pursed her lips, and took a sip from her glass of wine.

“Can she just show that she’s a good sport? I think she made the wrong move,” Kelly said.

“It was a gentle swipe,” Kelly added. “By the way, she’s not in charge of the number of times the NFL chooses to put her on cam. That’s not her fault.”

“It is annoying,” Kelly added. “And if she were smart, she would laugh like she was in on the joke.”

Kelly then proceeded to talk about a moment in Barbra Streisand’s The Way We Were, where someone makes a “crude joke” about her character. “Hubble [Robert Redford] tells her, ‘That it’s funny is not the only reason to laugh at something,’” Kelly explained on her show.

“If I would’ve been her adviser, I would’ve said you should laugh or even do a face plant to show, ‘I’m embarrassed,’” she said. “Something to communicate that you get it and it’s been a bit much. That looked like ‘How dare you question me and my popularity, loser.’”

It’s an interesting take from someone who’s had shitty, misogynistic comments thrown at her before.

Speaking to GMA3 Monday, Koy — whose name Kelly mispronounced several times — described the Golden Globes as a “tough room,” and when asked if there was a particular moment that he regretted, he said the Swift joke simply didn’t land the way he planned.

“I think it was the Taylor [Swift] one [that] was just a little flat… It was a weird joke, I guess,” he said. “But it was more on the NFL… I was trying to make fun of the NFL using cutaways and how the Globes didn’t have to do that. It was more of a jab toward the NFL, but it just didn’t come out that way.”

Koy was met with boos during his opening monologue at Sunday’s awards show. On GMA3, he also expressed his regret for blaming his writers for his bad jokes during his opening monologue as he admitted that he wasn’t sure if he’d take the opportunity to host the show again. “I feel bad, but I have to still love what I did,” he said.
