OnePlus 12R isn’t working on Verizon yet, although it should be

While the OnePlus 12 works fine on Verizon, the same unfortunately can’t be said about its more affordable sibling, the OnePlus 12R. According to some user reports, the phone simply doesn’t work on Verizon, even though it definitely should.

It’s the first time that an R series device launches in the US, and it seems like the launch wasn’t prepared properly from OnePlus’ side. One user on XDA forums explains the issue quite eloquently, describing that out of multiple 12Rs he purchased, all are “Invalid IMEI” on Verizon.

OnePlus customer support has apparently been stringing him along for over a week, constantly asking him to wait a day or two, over and over again. For what it’s worth, OnePlus has acknowledged the issue in this statement issued to Android Authority:

The OnePlus 12R is able to work with all major carriers and on all major 5G networks in the US, including Verizon. We are currently investigating unexpected cases that users may be having with Verizon’s network, and are working with the carrier to resolve the issue as soon as possible.

Unfortunately, the company hasn’t provided any specific pointers as to how long the process could take. It might just be a case of support for this model being ‘switched on’ at Verizon, but the fact that it should be simple doesn’t mean it’s going to be easy, or quick.

So for now, if your carrier of choice is Verizon and the phone you’re eyeing is the OnePlus 12R, if we were in your shoes we’d hold off on the purchase until everything is working properly. Hopefully it won’t take too long. While you wait, why not read our in-depth OnePlus 12R review? That way you can get better acquainted with it ahead of time.
