Photos: Google starts testing redesigned Photos app: Here’s what may change


Google is testing a redesigned version of its Photos app. The new version of the Photos app is currently being tested with a small group of users, but it is expected to be rolled out to everyone in the coming weeks. According to a report by Android Police, the upcoming update to the Photos app was shared as screenshots on the Telegram and Twitter apps by Nail Sadykov, editor of Google News Telegram channel.

Here’s what may change
The updated version of the Photos app has tabs for Photos, Memories, and Library, while the current Search tab gets a separate circular floating button to the right. There’s also a new floating search bar that can be moved around the screen. The Sharing option which is currently located at the bottom bar in the Photos app, has been relocated to the top right of the screen, to the left of the profile image. Moreover, the Google Photos logo is also relocated to the top left instead of the centre of the screen. Meanwhile, there’s an all-new Memories tab with a new UI, reminiscent of a redesign spotted by the same source back in early May.

Meanwhile, the Photos app is receiving some new video editing features in the form of video effects and improved media controls. Google Photos app is getting some new special effects for videos. The new video effects can be found under a new Effects tab within the Edit interface. Once users select the Effects option, the Photos app then downloads the newly added effects and then lets users apply them to the video they are editing at the moment.
