Post Malone charmed an energetic Vegas crowd Saturday as he kicked off the first of a two-night stint in Sin City to help usher in the New Year.
Taking the stage at the brand-new BleauLive Theater at Fontainebleau Las Vegas, the singer ran through a nearly two-hour-long set of his biggest hits, backed by an eight-piece band that included two violinists and cellists. Dressed in bedazzled denim shorts and a cropped Dallas Cowboys jersey, Malone opened with “Better Now” and strutted on stage to fan favorites like “Circles,” “Rockstar,” and “I Like You (A Happier Song)” — sans Doja Cat feature — before closing just before midnight with a one-two punch of “Sunflower” and “Chemical.”
In between, the singer took on Vegas in full force, bathed in red light and backed by leaping flames for the Ozzy Osbourne duet, “Take What You Want.” He also threw it back to his debut 2016 mixtape, August 26th, with “Hollywood Dreams,” which samples “Dreams” by Fleetwood Mac.
And while the slimmed-down singer has credited his dramatic weight loss to cutting out sugary soda, he did, at one point of the night, ask for a beer (in case you were wondering). Malone seemed to address the speculation about his health when he reflected on the “crazy year” he’s had with his “If Y’all Weren’t Here, I’d Be Crying Tour,” which kept him on the road for six straight months across the U.S., Latin America, Asia and Australia. “I’m trying to take better care of myself,” the singer offered soberly.
Malone also shouted out his 18-month-old daughter during the show, pledging to “be there for her for as long as I can,” before launching into a poignant rendition of his 2015 single, “Too Young.” The song, which was written after the death of ASAP Yams (reportedly from an overdose), inspired Malone to send a message to the crowd: “Never be scared to reach out to someone who may be having a hard time,” he said, paying tribute to his friend.
Malone kept his show lighthearted for the most part, shimmying around in his short shorts and taking selfies (and accepting gifts) from the standing room fans on the floor. At one point, he taunted the pro-Las Vegas Raiders crowd, asking, “How about them Cowboys?” only to be met with chorus of boos.
At the end of the night, the singer left his fans with some advice and encouragement for 2024: “It’s the new year,” he said. “Keep kicking ass and be the best self you can be every single day.”
Malone was just the second artist to take the stage at BleauLive Theater, following Justin Timberlake’s concert earlier this month at the Fontainebleau’s official grand opening. The new hotel is the latest addition to the iconic Fontainebleau portfolio. It follows the original Miami property, which is set to celebrate its 70th anniversary this year.
