The Rolls-Royce on Wednesday successfully demonstrated UltraFan’s technology, which offers maximum power to aero-engines. The company has run the technology at its facility in the UK’s Derby. It has been shared by the officials that the initial test stage was conducted using 100 percent Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).

Confirming the news, officials called it a big step towards improving the overall scenario of current and future aero-engines in terms of efficiency. It has been informed that UltraFan will be 25 percent more fuel efficient than the original Trent 700, and will prove as the key element to improve gas turbine performance and efficiency.

This fantastic milestone puts us in a strong position to support the plans of our customers as they develop the next generation of super-efficient aircraft.”

Group Director of Engineering, Technology and Safety of Rolls-Royce, Simon Burr said, “We estimate that to reach Net Zero flying by 2050, a combination of highly-efficient, latest-generation gas turbines such as UltraFan operating on 100% SAF is likely to contribute around 80% of the total solution, which is why today’s announcement is such an important milestone for Rolls-Royce and the wider industry.”
