Romulus Trailer Looks Creepy, Gory, and Excellent

For years, we knew a Fede Álvarez-helmed Alien movie was coming, but had no idea what it would look like or be about. That changes right now.

Disney, yes Disney, just dropped the first trailer for Alien: Romulus, which hits theaters August 16. Directed by Álvarez (Evil Dead, Don’t Breathe), the film stars Cailee Spaeny (Priscilla, Civil War) and Isabela Merced (Madame Web) as the latest badass ladies to fight the acid-blooded xenomorphs, joining the ranks of Sigourney Weaver and Noomi Rapace. But what’s it all about? We’ve heard tons of rumors but now, finally, here’s your first taste of Alien: Romulus.

Alien: Romulus | Teaser Trailer

The official description reads as follows: “While scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station, a group of young space colonizers come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe.” Yup. seems about right. Here’s the first poster too.

With the film not out for five months, there’s really not much in there. Is the film, as Spaeny said, really set between Alien and Aliens? How did the xenomorph get on this ship? There are lots of questions in terms of specifics. However, in terms of plain old normal people on a spaceship fighting a killer alien species? This trailer delivers.

We love the long camera moves, flying face-huggers, even the weaponry feels very Alien. Honestly, this could have nothing to do with the other films in the franchise and just kind of rip off the idea of the first film and we’d be all aboard. But, hopefully, it’s a mix of both.

Co-starring David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Spike Fearn, and Aileen Wu, Alien: Romulus opens August 16. Tell us what you think below.
