Ryan Gosling, America Ferrera Promote Oscars on ‘Kimmel’

Oscars host Jimmy Kimmel enlisted the Barbie cast to help him make his way to the awards show. In a new clip, which aired on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Helen Mirren narrates the tale of a man (Kimmel) lost on his way to the Oscars. He enlists help from Weird Barbie (Kate McKinnon), who takes him through all of the Best Picture nominees to get to Oscarsland.

The journey, in Weird Barbie’s car, goes via Poor Things, Maestro, and Oppenheimer, where the pair spot Matt Damon’s character and eventually run him over. Once they arrive in Los Angeles, America Ferrera is ready with an inspirational monologue. Also along for the ride is Ryan Gosling in his iconic Kenough sweatshirt.

The actor says he picked up In-N-Out on his way to the Oscars, claiming, “It’s kind of this cool social media trend where you get it before the Oscars.” After he’s corrected by Kimmel that the trend is to have it after you’ve won the Oscar, Gosling replies, “Well, that’s not going to happen. Good thing Greta’s got director in the bag.”

Barbie is nominated for eight awards at the Oscars, including Best Picture. Gosling and Ferrera are both nominated for their supporting performances.

Kimmel will host the 96th Academy Awards on Sunday, March 10, marking his third time in the role. Kimmel first hosted the Oscars in 2017 — the year of the Moonlight vs La La Land mixup — then returned for the 2018 ceremony. With his fourth gig coming up, he joins Whoopi Goldberg and Jack Lemmon as the show’s only four-timers.

During the 2023 ceremony, Kimmel had to tone down and cut a couple of jokes about the infamous Will Smith-Chris Rock slap that happened last year, when the show was hosted by Wanda Sykes, Regina Hall, and Amy Schumer. “We want you to have fun. We want you to feel safe. And most importantly, we want me to feel safe. So we have strict policies in place,” he joked during his monologue. “If anyone in this theater commits an act of violence at any point during the show, you will be awarded the Oscar for best actor and be permitted to give a 19-minute long speech.”
