Scorsese ties with Barbenheimer as Bafta longlists announced | Baftas

Killers of the Flower Moon, Martin Scorsese’s crime epic set in 1920s Osage County, is leading the pack alongside Barbie and Oppenheimer at the first stage of voting for this year’s Bafta film awards.

The film, which has 15 nods on the longlist and stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Lily Gladstone and Robert De Niro, is toe to toe with this summer’s box office victors Barbie and Oppenheimer, which also have 15 mentions apiece.

Yorgos Lanthimos’s steampunk feminist comedy horror Poor Things follows with 14, followed by Leonard Bernstein biopic Maestro with 12. Andrew Haigh’s ghostly romance All of Us Strangers follows with 10, as does Jonathan Glazer’s Auschwitz drama The Zone of Interest.

All these films are in contention for the best picture prize, along with the Palme d’Or-winning courtroom drama Anatomy of a Fall (seven), Alexander Payne’s Christmas comedy-drama The Holdovers (seven) and Celine Song’s moving romance Past Lives (six).

The longlists are drawn up by individual Bafta chapters specific to the profession, and by full member votes. The next round of voting, to determine the official nominations, opens on Friday and closes on 12 January, ahead of the 18 January announcement.

The ceremony takes place three weeks before this year’s Oscars. Earlier on Friday it was announced that David Tennant will host.
