Shredder’s Revenge in Dimension Shellshock DLC

The other half-shell

Dotemu and Tribute Games have announced that hit arcade beat-’em-up Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge is getting DLC in the form of Dimension Shellshock. It will be coming later this year. According to my watch, it is 2023.

The key feature of the Dimension Shellshock DLC is the inclusion of Usagi Yojimbo (which literally means Rabbit Bodyguard in Japanese). Usagi was the star of his own comic book but frequently crossed over with the turtles. I mostly know Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles from playing the games, and I’m not sure I’ve ever watched an episode of its various cartoons or watched a movie.

I watched The Real Ghostbusters as a child, and I was already a bit too young for that.

However, Chris Moyse is Destructoid’s Old Stuff expert, and he doesn’t know I’m about to quote him in explaining, “This is a sorta crossover. Usagi was an independent, Japanese-American comic book character, who blew up in the mid-’80s before anyone in the West had any interest in Japanese culture such as Manga/Anime, but Usagi Yojimbo kind of carried those tropes, as well as the vibe of Kurosawa films. In a way, that comic was a frontrunner in introducing Manga and other Japanese media to the US.”

That’s more or less what he said. He may have reworded it while editing this piece, he’s really awesome at his job like that, said I, Zoey Handley, the writer of this article.

It is also implied that there are also new levels in the mix here, but the press release barely touches on these. There are definitely locations that I don’t recognize in the trailer.

Alongside the Dimension Shellshock DLC, Shredder’s Revenge will receive another free update (following the one released in December 2022). Right now, the only feature announced for the next update is more color palettes for the game’s characters.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge is currently available on Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, PC, and mobile platforms. The Dimension Shellshock will be available sometime this year.
