Skoda is yet to send the Slavia to the Global NCAP for crash test results for determining how safe the car is. However, a recent accident has revealed the potential and strength of the chassis of the sedan in case of a crash. A Skoda Slavia recently met with an accident, as it rear-ended a Mahindra XUV700, which is reported to be the first-ever crash case involving the Slavia in India.
The details of this accident between the Skoda Slavia and Mahindra XUV700 are described in a video by The Car Show. In this video, we can see that the front end of the Skoda Slavia is damaged as it hit the Mahindra XUV700 from the rear.

While the reasons behind the accident are not yet clear, it seems that the Slavia’s driver failed to apply brakes at the right moment. Both the vehicles were heading in the same direction. Due to the sudden application of brakes by the XUV700 driver driving in front, the Slavia might have rear-ended the SUV, thus damaging its front profile.
In the video, we can see that the bonnet of the Slavia is badly crumpled, while the headlamps, front bumper and grille are broken due to the collision. Luckily, the impact is nicely absorbed by the car, as we can see that the damage has not reached the pillars and the panels of the Slavia beyond them.
Skoda Slavia airbags did not deploy
The Slavia shown in the video seems to be the top-spec variant due to the presence of a sunroof, which means that it has six airbags on board. The video also explains that the Slavia’s driver was driving the sedan at a speed of around 40 km/h. Due to the not-so-strong impact, the airbags did not deploy in this case.
Designed and engineered with the MQB A0-IN platform as the base, the new Skoda Slavia came in as a replacement for the popular Rapid. Since its arrival, the Slavia has shown its mettle as yet another popular selling model from Skoda. Launched as a petrol-only sedan, the new Skoda Slavia is offered with two petrol engine options – a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged 115 PS engine and a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine.
Apart from a 6-speed manual gearbox offered as standard across the range, the 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre variants are also offered with a 6-speed torque converter and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox respectively, as optional transmissions.
