Prevent Samsung TV from rebooting your Xbox
If you’ve experienced this problem with your Samsung TV and Xbox console, you may have already tried turning OFF HDMI-CEC. That won’t fix the issue.
The problem lies with the Universal Remote feature, which works regardless of whether HDMI-CEC is enabled or disabled on your console and/or TV.
So, to prevent your TV from rebooting or powering ON your Xbox, you’ll need to delete the Universal Remote profile created by the TV when the Xbox was first set up via Auto Detection. To do this:
- Hit the “Home” button on the Samsung TV remote.
- Go to “Sources” or “Connected devices” (depending on the TV model you use or the Tizen version your TV has).
- Access “Universal Remote Setup.” In this menu, you will see two buttons. One is “New Device,” and the other is the Xbox.
- Navigate to the Xbox option and delete the Universal Remote profile.
NOTE: One downside of deleting the Universal Remote profile for your Xbox is that the Xbox source on the TV will now be labeled “HDMI” and no longer have the Xbox logo. However, you can use the generic “Game Console” name instead of “HDMI.” This is a small price to pay to prevent your TV from rebooting or powering ON your Xbox.
