‘Tame your expectations’ : MKBHD reviews the Pixel tablet

Popular Youtuber MKBHD has a review of the Pixel tablet on his YouTube channel. MKBHD or Marques Brownlee is a popular name among tech enthusiasts. The popular tech reviewer has asked Android tablet fans to ‘tame their expectations’ around the new tablet claiming that it’s ‘nothing amazing or super premium’.

In a 13-minute video posted on his Youtube channel, Brownlee explained that the Pixel tablet is interesting and a lit bit underrated in terms of how important it could be for the other Android tablets on the market.

Pixel 7 was announced at the Google I/O 2023 event last month at a price point of $499 or around 43,000. The tablet is powered by the Tensor G2 processor that also powers the Pixel 7 series. It comes with a 10.95 inch LCD display with a resolution of 2560×1600 and a 276 pixels per inch density.

Brownlee was particularly impressed by the look and feel of the Pixel tablet, he said, “I really like the soft touch finish on the back. This is the porcelain colour and it hides the fingerprints really really well, feels solid in hand. It’s actually made of metal but you honestly could never tell just holding it thanks to the coating”

The YouTuber was also impressed by some of the new software features Google brought to its newest tablet. In particular, Brownlee was impressed by the new software dock which is placed on the bottom of the screen and the muti-tasking features.

However, Brownlee was not impressed by the display and the performance of the Pixel tablet. He said, “ The display doesn’t get particularly bright and it’s (Pixel tablet) is not the fastest thing in the world”

“I just cannot call this tablet fast. Not sure if it’s underclocked or what’s happening here but it behaves very much like a basic midrange Android tablet” the YouTuber added

Brownlee wasn’t particularly impressed with the Pixel tablet’s app optimisation. He noted that while Google’s own apps take full advantage of the tablet’s large screen, other third-party apps such as Instagram, Twitter and Tik Tok aren’t yet fully optimised yet.

The popular YouTuber also highlighted the “biggest weakness” of Android tablets. He said that developers are incentivised to make apps for the iPad because an app runs on all iPads, whereas the same isn’t true for all Android tablets.
