The Tata Curvv and the Sierra will take the fight to Hyundai Creta.
The fight between the Indian auto giant Tata Motors and the South Korean automaker Hyundai for the second spot on the list of the top-selling car brand in India has always been fierce. In the last few months, Tata has even managed to dethrone Hyundai from the spot a couple of times. Although over the years what Tata Motors has failed to do is beating Hyundai’s Creta in the compact SUV segment. The Creta in this segment has been ruling it like a boss for a number of years. Although now it seems like Tata has had enough and is now planning to double down on the segment to take the title from the Creta with the launch of two new SUVs – the Curvv and the Sierra.
Tata currently has Harrier which started off its life as the Creta rival but over the years has now swelled up in price and now sits in the mid-size segment. So in an attempt to snatch the market share from Hyundai Tata Motors is looking to launch the Curvv Coupe SUV and the Sierra SUV in the segment in the coming period. Most likely we will see the Curvv in 2024 and the Sierra in 2025.
At the beginning of its life, the Curvv will start off as an EV although it has been reported that Tata is also planning to launch the coupe like SUV with a 1.2l TGDI petrol engine which it recently showcased at the 2023 Auto Expo alongside the Curvv concept. The Curvv will most likely measure in 4.4 meter and will give a stiff competeition to the Hyundai Creta and Seltos. It will boast a unique tapered roof like a coupe which could attract a different niche of buyers.

Although if someone does not like the styling of the Curvv, Tata Motors is also getting ready to offer them a more aggressive and macho SUV in the shape of the Sierra. The Sierra will also be another SUV from Tata that will be gunning for the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos in the compact SUV segment. The Sierra will be launched in 2025 and will take its design inspiration and insignia from the legendary Sierra SUV from the brand.
As of yet the powertrains of both vehicles have not been disclosed by the Tata Motors although it has been revelaed that these SUVs that will be based on Tata’s Sigma platform, will offer two drivetrain options. The first will be an-electric powertrain and the other will be the newly introduced T-GDI turbo-petrol mills.
Currently Tata Motors has kept its lips sealed about the specifications, range and battery size of the EV drivetrains for the Curvv and Sierra but we will get to know about them pretty soon. Meanwhile for the ICE iterations it is beleived that Tata Motors will give the Curvv – the 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine. It is believed that this mill will churn out a maximum power of 125 PS and a peak torque of 225 Nm. While on the other it will give the Sierra the 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine which could produce around 160 bhp and torque figure around 250 Nm.
