To double down on the success of its already hit electric vehicle Nexon EV, the country’s largest electric carmaker Tata Motors will be launching the long-range version of the model. Recently, Tata Motors announced that this forthcoming extended range vehicle will be called the Nexon EV Max. It was also announced that the Nexon EV Max will go on sale on May 11, 2022. According to reports, dealers have also unofficially started taking the bookings for the model which could be priced around Rs 20 lakh on-road.
The new Nexon EV Max will not only offer a range extension but will also get some notable new features that were previously missed on the Nexon EV. Tata Motors recently shared a teaser of the Nexon EV Max and eagle-eyed enthusiasts could spot that the rotary gear selector is now illuminated with a blue backlight, and the model now also gets a park mode which the outgoing Nexon EV misses out on.
In addition, it can also be seen that there is an electronic parking brake and an auto-hold feature. The inclusion of two configurable regen modes appears to be a substantial boost as well. With the new setup the Sport and Eco driving modes continue to remain, but additional controls have been added beside the rotary gear controller.

According to reports a few additional features like a wider range of connected car functions, electronic stability program, cruise control, ventilated seats, and an air purifier could also be offered in the upcoming vehicle. A new set of alloy wheels could also be offered in the new model along with rear disc brakes.
Apart from all these, the obvious and the biggest change in the Nexon EV Max will be the inclusion of a bigger 40kWh battery. This new and larger battery will help the forthcoming vehicle to achieve a greater range than the outgoing model and if rumours are to be believed it could also get more power and torque. Tata Motors will adapt the Nexon EV’s floor layout to accommodate the bigger battery pack, but on the flip side, the boot space in the EV Max will suffer a little bit.
With the new and larger battery, the Nexon EV Max should be able to extend the current model’s ARAI-claimed 312km range. Reports have also suggested that it could be high as 400km, but this figure is for the official test cycle. The good news is that this could still translate to a real-world range of around 320km which will be still a lot higher than the outgoing model’s 200-220km range.
Additionally, it was also reported that the Nexon EV Max could be offered with a more powerful 6.6kW AC charger in place of the 3.3kW AC charger in the standard car. The standard Nexon EV currently takes 10 hours to charge with the 3.3 kW AC charger. In conclusion, it seems like these will be the new changes but the rest of the car will be the same as the outgoing Nexon EV, however, we don’t what else more Tata could be hiding under its sleeves.
