The country’s third car manufacturing giant, Tata Motors, is known for its sub-compact SUV, Nexon. This sub-4m SUV is currently one of the top sellers in the segment, and there are a number of reasons behind its success. Of these reasons, one is the 5-star safety rating that it scored twice in Global NCAP crash testing. Recently, the facelifted version of this SUV was also tested by Global NCAP, and it managed to score a perfect five-star safety rating. Now, a lot of people are wondering if both the old and the new model scored the same 5-star safety ratings, then is there any difference between the two. Well, the answer to that is yes, there are a number of differences, and the new rating is much better than before. Let us explain.

Tata Nexon Safety Rating Comparison: Old vs. New

In the previous round of crash tests that took place back in 2018-19, the Tata Nexon garnered a commendable 5-star rating, with noteworthy scores in both adult and child occupant protection. However, the latest crash tests done by Global NCAP (New Car Assessment Programme) have revealed a remarkable enhancement in safety performance across different metrics on which the crash worthiness of a vehicle is judged.

Adult Occupant Protection Tests Comparison

When the pre-facelift Tata Nexon was tested back in 2018-19, it scored 16.06 out of 17 points for adult occupant protection. Meanwhile, the brand-new Nexon facelift has managed to achieve a remarkable score of 32.22 out of 34 points. Over the years, GNCAP has made its assessment tests more stringent, and getting such a high score presents a significant jump in the protection of adult occupants during collisions.

Child Occupant Protection Tests Comparison

As for the requirement for any car to be considered safe, it has to pass strict child occupant protection tests as well. Prior to the launch of the facelift, the Nexon received a respectable rating for child occupant protection, with a score of 25 out of 49 points. However, after the most recent tests were concluded by GNCAP, a significant leap in child occupant protection of the Nexon facelift has been noted. The new model scored an impressive 44.52 out of 49 points.

Nexon Facelift Crash Tests Analysis

The detailed analysis of the crash test results revealed that there were several key factors that contributed to the Nexon’s improved safety performance. In the latest tests, the Nexon underwent rigorous evaluations, including front offset deformable barrier and side mobile barrier tests. It was also stated that the Nexon’s stable body shell structure played a pivotal role in achieving high scores. Following the tests, it was stated that the cars had passed all of the tests with flying colors, making the Nexon a very safe sub-compact SUV.

Tata Nexon Facelift Safety Features

In terms of the safety features, the Tata Nexon facelift comes equipped with a host of standard safety features. It gets 6 airbags as standard (dual front airbags, side airbags, and curtain airbags), Electronic Stability Program, ISOFIX, seatbelt warning for all occupants, reverse parking sensors, 360-degree camera, tire pressure monitoring system, and a number of other additional safety features.
