The Cursed Spin-Off to a Sci- Epic Finally Replaces Its Creative Team

Denis Villenueve’s Dune was greeted as a certifiable instant classic of the sci-fi genre, managing to earn upwards of $400 million at the box office despite releasing in the throes of the pandemic, before going on to win an incredible six Academy Awards from 10 nominations in total, with the hype levels steadily rising ahead of this year’s Part 2.

However, things have not been going quite so swimmingly on the small screen, with Max’s spin-off series The Sisterhood having been cursed at virtually every turn. The project was first announced in June of 2019, but the only movement to have happened between then and now has seemingly involved key creative players jumping ship with reckless abandon.

Jon Spaihts signed on to script the pilot, with Dana Calvo named as showrunner, but both of them ended up dropping out, before Diane Ademu-John took over as the latter’s replacement. However, she exited The Sisterhood as well, although Ademu-John does at least remain on board via a ceremonial executive producer credit.

Director Johan Renck was lined up to helm the first two episodes, with Shirley Henderson and Indira Varma named as the first two principal cast members. If you can believe it, though, all three of those aforementioned names ended up abandoning ship, but the good news is that replacements have been named at long last.

Per Variety, Anna Foerster will now helm Dune: The Sisterhood, while Olivia Williams and Jodhi May may have been drafted in to head up the ensemble. It’s taken three years just to get this far, so who knows when the end product will end up making its way to streaming.
