The Prequel to Mad Max Fury Road Is Here

Mad Max: Fury Road was a game-changing, rip-roaring, masterpiece of filmmaking and now we finally have our first look at Furiosa, its follow-up. Today is a lovely, lovely day indeed.

It’s called Furiosa, it’s a prequel to Fury Road, and it follows Charlize Theron’s iconic character before her adventures with Max. This time, Furiosa is played by Anya Taylor-Joy, and from the looks of it, director George Miller has once again crafted a symphony of cinematic chaos. Here’s the much-anticipated first trailer for Furiosa, which hits theaters May 24, 2024.

FURIOSA : A MAD MAX SAGA | OFFICIAL TRAILER #1

Anyone else need a cigarette after watching that? Because, holy crap. George Miller does not disappoint with this first look, which is just chock full of painting worthy imagery, practical action effects, winks and nods to the world of Fury Road, and Taylor-Joy looking so freaking bad ass all along the way.

As for the story, the trailer certainly sets it up but here’s how Warner Bros. puts it officially:

As the world fell, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus. Sweeping through the Wasteland, they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home.

Knowing where the story goes in Fury Road, we don’t predict things go too well for Hemsworth’s Dementus, who looks kind of bonkers. But it should be an incredible showdown.

Officially called Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, it opens May 24, 2024.
