Toyota Hilux pick-up truck available with discount of up to Rs 8 lakh

Rarely comes a time when Toyota offers massive discounts on its vehicles, and that rare opportunity has just hit the market with the Hilux. According to a report, Toyota Hilux is offered lucrative discounts of more than Rs 6 lakh on the Hilux lifestyle pickup truck.

Among the two variants of the Toyota Hilux on sale in the market, it is the more premium High variant which is attracting more discounts. A few North Indian dealerships of Toyota are offering discounts of Rs 6-8 lakh on the Hilux, which was launched in 2022 with a starting price of Rs 33.99 lakh according to ACI.

At that time, Toyota stopped taking bookings for the Hilux, citing the overwhelming demand for the pickup truck. Toyota restarted taking the bookings for Hilux at the beginning of 2023, and this time, it came with price revisions.

To liquidate the stocks, dealerships across the country are offering discounts of at least Rs 6 lakh, which are also going Rs 8 lakh upwards, depending on the inventory. Reports suggest that Toyota has sold only 1,300 units of the Hilux since its launch in March 2022.

Assembled in India

The lifestyle pickup truck is assembled here in India with 30-35 per cent localisation levels. With the price corrections, the entry-level Standard MT variant’s price dropped by Rs 3.59 lakh, resulting in a lower entry pricing of Rs 30.40 lakh. On the other hand, Toyota hiked the prices of the more premium High variant, which is available with both manual and automatic transmission options.

While the price of the manual went up by Rs 1.35 lakh, that of the automatic variant received a hike of Rs 1.10 lakh. With these hikes, the revised prices of the High variant were Rs 37.15 lakh for the manual and Rs 37.90 lakh for the automatic version.

All the variants of the Toyota Hilux come standard with a 2.8-litre four-cylinder diesel engine, which is shared with the Fortuner SUV. This engine, which is being offered with both the transmission options of a 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic, produces 204 PS of maximum power and 500 Nm of maximum torque outputs.

The Toyota Hilux is positioned in a niche segment of lifestyle pickups, which has witnessed limited popularity and acceptance in the Indian market. The only other lifestyle pickup available in India is the Isuzu V-Cross, which has a much smaller 1.9-litre 150 PS diesel engine and is priced around Rs 5 lakh lower than the Hilux.
