TRAI working to make DND app compatible with all Android smartphones, iPhones


The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has said that it is fixing bugs in its do not disturb (DND) app to make it compatible with all Android smartphones and . The app helps mobile subscribers report pesky calls and text messages.

TRAI secretary V Raghunandan said the regulator is fixing bugs in the Do Not Disturb (DND) app to address technical issues faced by consumers.

“We have roped in an agency, which is fixing bugs in the app,” Raghunandan said at an event organised by Truecaller.

“There were issues with some Android devices that have been addressed to a large extent. We are trying to make the app compatible with all Android devices by March,” Raghunandan added.

Problem with DND app on Android
According to a report, the TRAI DND app has been showing errors when mobile subscribers attempt to report spam calls and SMS. When the Times of India Tech-Gadgets Now team checked on the Android phone, it worked fine.

Raghunandan said the number of spam calls and SMS has come down significantly as the regulator improved the app. He added that work is on to make the app compatible with iOS devices as well. Notably,

had denied giving the app access to call logs.

TRAI DND 3.0 app
TRAI released the app which is built ground up and enables users to report scam and pesky calls. Other features of the app include:

  • An intelligent spam detection engine (for SMS only) to assist the subscriber in reporting
  • Crowdsourcing of data about offending messages and calls to speed up detection of unregistered telemarketers
  • Updates about action taken on complaints within the App
  • Easier interface and set up

Apart from Play Store, TRAI DND App is also available on UMANG. Apple removed the app from the App Store last year.
