U.S. Women’s World Cup Team’s Three-Peat Hopes Focus of Docuseries

Netflix’s four-episode series about USWNT and their on- and off-the-fields battles premieres December 12

The U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team’s efforts to capture a third straight World Cup is the focus of the upcoming Netflix docuseries Under Pressure: The U.S. Women’s World Cup Team, with the streaming service sharing the first trailer Saturday.

Under Pressure follows the roster of vets like Megan Rapinoe, Alex Morgan and Lindsey Horan alongside new additions like Savannah DeMelo, Lynn Williams and Kristie Mewis as they compete both on the field and off, including a battle with the U.S. Soccer Federation to secure equal pay as their male counterparts.

Following championships in 2015 and 2019, the U.S. team attempted an unprecedented three-peat this summer as the World Cup traveled to Australia and New Zealand. (Spoiler alert: While they were victorious in the pay gap fight, they were not so lucky on the soccer field.)

“The all-access sports series will allow audiences to intimately follow the U.S. Women’s National Team’s players and coaches and reveal an inside look at the most decorated team in soccer history,” Netflix said of the docuseries.

“Viewers will get a first-hand look at the pressure, the euphoria, the joy and the hardships that these world-class athletes experience as they strive to capture their third World Cup title in a row. Issues ranging from injury, criticism and doubt, equal pay and upholding legacies are all brought to light as the narrative unfolds.”
