Vivo might beat Samsung in launching dust-resistant foldable phone

Samsung was the first smartphone brand to launch a foldable smartphone with an IPX7 water resistance rating. However, it could soon lose the crown to Vivo, which is rumored to be planning to launch the world’s first foldable phone with dust and water resistance.

Vivo X Fold 3 Pro could have dust and water resistance

The Vivo X Fold 3 Pro will be launched in China later this month, and it could be the world’s first foldable phone with dust and water resistance rating. While Samsung’s foldable phones have been resistant to water for three years, the South Korean firm hasn’t been able to bring dust resistance to its Galaxy Z lineup. That shortcoming could become a thorn in the flesh for Samsung this year.

According to a report from China (via TheTechOutlook), the Vivo X Fold 3 Pro could be a higher-end version of the X Fold 3. It will reportedly feature an 8.03-inch OLED screen with 2K+ resolution, a 1-120Hz variable refresh rate, and Dolby Vision certification. It is said to have a 6.53-inch OLED cover screen with Full HD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate.

It could have a 50MP primary rear camera (1/1.3-inch), a 50MP ultrawide camera, and a 64MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. On the front and the inside, it could have 32MP selfie cameras. It could also have ultrasonic in-display fingerprint readers on both its screens. Stereo speakers are also expected to be present on the Vivo X Fold 3 Pro.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is expected to handle all the processing inside the Vivo X Fold 3 Pro, paired with up to 16GB RAM and up to 1TB storage. It could be powered by a massive 5,800mAh battery, featuring 120W fast wired charging and 50W fast wireless charging. Other features could include GPS, 5G, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, and a USB Type-C port.

Galaxy Z Fold 6 could still sell more than Vivo X Fold 3 Pro

If this report is accurate, the Vivo X Fold 3 Pro could end up destroying the Galaxy Z Fold 6, which is expected to have weaker telephoto and ultrawide cameras, a much smaller battery, and much slower charging speeds. Samsung could still sell many more Galaxy Z Fold 6 units than the Vivo X Fold 3 Pro due to its wider availability, possibly seven years of Android OS updates, and better software design and UI.

Some rumors claim that Samsung is developing a higher-end version of the Galaxy Z Fold 6, which could be called the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Ultra. It could feature a bigger screen, an S Pen, and better cameras.
