You may soon be able to set a unique username on WhatsApp

WhatsApp has been working on numerous useful features which promise to enhance the user experience. Now a new report has surfaced online suggesting that WhatsApp is working on other interesting features. The Meta-owned platform will soon enable users to add a unique username to their WhatsApp account.

WABetaInfo, the website which keeps track of changes in WhatsApp build has revealed that WhatsApp is working on a username feature, allowing users to choose unique usernames for their accounts. Although this feature is currently in development and not yet visible. The report also adds that WhatsApp will dedicate a section to this feature within Settings> Profile.

“With the ability to choose a username, WhatsApp users will have the opportunity to add another layer of privacy to their accounts. This means that instead of relying solely on phone numbers to identify contacts, users will be able to opt for a unique and memorable username: by allowing users to choose usernames, WhatsApp may offer users the ability to reach other people by entering a username within the app, without knowing their phone numbers,” mentions the report.

The ability to set up a WhatsApp username is under development and it will be released to beta testers in a future update of the app.

WhatsApp recently rolled out edit sent message feature
WhatsApp recently rolled out the ability to edit sent messages for its users. WhatsApp users will now be able to modify a message within 15 minutes of hitting the ‘send’ button. The users need to press and hold on to a message and tap on the edit option to alter the message. It is important to note that the edited messages will have an “edited” tag/label next to the time stamp to mark the change. WhatsApp won’t maintain any correction history. This means that other users won’t be able to see the previous versions of edited messages.
