YouTuber installs NOS in old-gen Mahindra Thar: Will it work?

Car modifications are a lot more common in India. Although it is completely illegal, we have a come across several mad modification projects from different parts of the country. If you have ever watched any of the Fast and the Furious movies, you will be quite familiar with the word Nitrous or NOS. It is used in many cars that are prepared for drag racing. In India however, we have rarely come across such examples. Here we have a video where a YouTuber attempts to install NOS in an old-generation Mahindra Thar SUV.

The video has been uploaded by SQV on their YouTube channel. The vlogger has posted this video in two parts. In first part, vlogger shows the installation and in the second video he is seen testing the same. The vlogger is testing the NOS on a heavily modified monster Mahindra Thar which belongs to his friend. They had imported a cylinder specifically to store NOS and after getting it, they were searching to shops that can actually fill it. Many stores rejected to do so as they have never heard of anything like this. NOS for vehicles is not a common concept in India and that is why vlogger was finding it difficult to refill the cylinder.

After a long search, they finally got a gas house that agreed to fill the cylinder. After filling the gas, vlogger drove the monster Thar back home and tried installing the NOS in the vehicle. The owner of this Thar had already done a host of modifications in it and the NOS was just one of them. He even built a holder to place the NOS cylinder inside the cabin. He had a heavy duty pipe that carries gas from the cylinder to the solenoid. In the first attempt, the pipe had leaks as they had not placed teflon tapes or plumbing tapes to keep the pipes sealed.

The metal braided pipes that carry the gas was connected to the solenoid. The solenoid will release the gas to the engine intake. The vlogger had idea about how the system works so he installed it his house. He mentions that they do not recommend doing the same at home. After installing, the NOS they take the car out for a drive to check the system. After joining the main road, the vlogger releases some amount of gas into the system. He was completely surprised with the way that the car was responding. There was definitely an improvement in performance but, soon the solenoid blew up.

Other than that, the gas was also leaking into the cabin. The vlogger was happy and at the same time worried about this system. By installing NOS, you increase the engine power output by allowing fuel to be burned at a higher-than-normal rate. This may be good for cars that are build for races but SUVs like Thar are not built for that and the engine block is not meant to handle so much pressure. The chances of blowing up the engine are pretty high.  Soon they started seeing smoke from the car and they ended the testing and drove the car back after closing the NOS valve. YouTuber mentions that the system definitely works and the difference in performance is noticeable.
