The lifestyle off-roader SUV, Jimny, from the country’s largest automaker, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, is one of the most highly anticipated cars in India at the moment. The entire country is buzzing to hear the official pricing of the vehicle from the company. Recently, Shashank Srivastava, the Executive Director at Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, commented on the same. In his recent interview, the Maruti chief stated that the Jimny would be priced very competitively in the Indian SUV market.

During an interview with Business Today, Shashank Srivastava was asked by the interviewer for insights about the pricing of the forthcoming Jimny. To this, Maruti’s head responded by saying that buyers of such niche vehicles in the country are willing to pay a premium for vehicles like Jimny, which are off-road capable. Therefore, the pricing will be in line with this expectation. However, he also added that as Maruti Suzuki products, both the Jimny and the Fronx would be priced very competitively.

Prior to the question on pricing, the interviewer also asked Srivastava about the booking figures of Jimny and Fronx. To this, Srivastava replied that the total bookings for both models are around 41,000 units. He further broke down the information that of this 41,000, 24,500 units belong to the Jimny, and the remaining 16,500 bookings belong to the Fronx. As of yet, the official launch date for the Jimny has not been announced, just like its pricing. However, it is believed that the company will be officially launching the model in May of this year.

The Jimny, once launched, will be the company’s sole ladder-on-frame offering in India, purpose-built for off-road usage. The model features the company’s proprietary AllGrip Pro system, which includes 2H, 4H, and 4L low-range transfer gear. As for the drivetrain, the off-roader SUV will come powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine that produces 103bhp and 134Nm of torque. It will be offered with the option of a five-speed manual transmission or a four-speed torque converter.

In terms of features, the SUV will come equipped with a nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, cruise control, LED headlamps with a washer, Suzuki Connect telematics, ABS with EBD, hill hold and hill descent control, and limited slip brake differential. Furthermore, the Alpha variant of the Jimny will be offered with projector headlamps, headlamp washers, automatic headlamps, green-tinted UV-cut glasses, 15-inch alloy wheels, and electrically folding and adjustable ORVMs.

Maruti Suzuki will be offering the Jimny in seven colors, including Kinetic Yellow with a Bluish-Black roof, Sizzling Red with a Bluish-Black roof, Sizzling Red, Granite Gray, Nexa Blue, Bluish Black, and Pearl Arctic White. The Zeta variant will be available in all colors except Sizzling Red and will get halogen headlamps, 15-inch steel rims, and regular glass for windows and windscreens.

In other Maruti Suzuki Jimny news recently we shared the safety ratings results of 2018 three-door Jimny that was tested by Euro NCAP, ANCAP (Australia) and JNCAP (Japan). The 2018 Suzuki Jimny tested by Euro NCAP secured a 3-star rating. The mini SUV scored 73% for adult safety and 84% for child safety. In addition, the Jimny was criticized for having poor pedestrian protection and a weak body structure that can cause high levels of injury to occupants in a crash. As of yet, no organization has tested the five-door Jimny so we will have to wait for the results to show up in the coming months.
