Meta is improving the group functionality in WhatsApp. The latest beta version of the messaging app brings a new group management tool that gives admins more control over who they allow in their groups. The new beta update also features a handful of new emojis.

As of now, WhatsApp groups can be joined freely by anyone with an invite link. This latest WhatsApp beta update changes this by adding a new group management tool called “group membership approval.” With this option enabled, people can no longer join the group at will. Instead, group admins have to review and accept or deny each group membership application. (via WaBetaInfo)

As usual, there’s no guarantee that a beta feature will make it into the public app, and if it will be released, there’s no telling when. But Meta has had a focus on improving WhatsApp groups recently and even increased the group member limit from 256 to 512.

With bigger groups, it only makes sense for WhatsApp to get a better group request management tool. So we may see this update going live after all. And in addition to the group tool, the update also includes a handful of new emojis.
