Galaxy A34 5G passes through FCC on its way to launch

0 32

At CES 2023 earlier this month, Samsung launched the Galaxy A14 5G as its first Galaxy A model of the year. The company is readying at least a couple more devices in this lineup for launch in the coming months. The Galaxy A34 5G and Galaxy A54 5G are expected to arrive in March, if not earlier. Both devices have appeared in multiple leaks in the past, and have also picked up a few certifications and regulatory approvals. The former has now cleared the FCC certification process as well.

The Galaxy A34 5G recently popped up on the FCC database with model number SM-A346M (via). The accompanying documents suggest the phone would support 25W fast wired charging, the same as its predecessor Galaxy A33 5G from last year. Samsung’s flagship phones also only offer 25W charging support (Galaxy S23, for example), so it’s not surprising that the Galaxy A34 5G doesn’t get a faster solution. We are expecting the battery capacity to remain unchanged as well, i. e. a 5,000mAh battery on the upcoming mid-range model.

The Galaxy A34 5G may not bring many upgrades

The FCC documents don’t shed much light on the specs of the phone. However, earlier leaks have given us a fair idea of what to expect from Samsung this time around. The device will seemingly be part of the Korean firm’s strategy of shipping its mid-range phones with different chipsets in different markets. The Galaxy A14 5G gives you either an Exynos 1330 or a MediaTek Dimensity 700 SoC depending on where you buy it. Based on the available information, the Galaxy A34 5G will also come in Exynos and Dimensity processor flavors. We are looking at the Exynos 1280 and Dimensity 1080.

If true, the new phone will get the same processor as its predecessors in some markets. The Galaxy A33 5G shipped with the Exynos 1280 globally. Perhaps the Galaxy A34 5G will not be a meaningful upgrade from the 2022 model. Rumors have hinted at the same 90Hz Super AMOLED display and 50MP primary rear camera. Even the secondary cameras may remain unchanged. We already know that Samsung is removing the depth sensor from its 2023 Galaxy A lineup. So the phone will only feature three cameras on the back, and one on the front.

It remains to be seen if the Galaxy A34 5G will bring any major upgrades apart from Android 13 out of the box. Last year’s model shipped with Android 12 and recently got updated to Android 13. We should hear more about the new Samsung mid-ranger in the coming weeks. Leaks about the device may get richer after the Galaxy S23 launch. The new Samsung flagships debut on February 1.
